Yamba gets a heart starter
The generosity of patrons at Yamba YHA has come full circle with the purchase of a defibrillator for the community coming straight from the hostel tip jar.
And now Yamba YHA co-owner Kellie Henwood is looking for feedback to determine where this valuable community asset should be located.
Mrs Henwood said since the backpackers opened in October 2009 they had collected $2800 from patron's tips to buy the defibrillator for the community.
"We were thinking of putting it here because we are open seven days a week from 8am till 11.30 pm,"she said. "But if the residents of Yamba think it would be better to locate the defibrillator at the Bowling Club, the golf club, the surf club or anywhere else in the community we are open to suggestions."
"We would be happy to donate it to that business or community organisation."
To gauge the community response on where the defibrillator should be located Mrs Henwood said Yamba YHA had taken to social networking website facebook.
"We would like people to leave a message explaining where they would like to see the defibrillator located on the Block Bar/Cafe facebook page."
