"This place is extraordinary! Tassie has created a hostel with charm and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Anyone staying in the Byron to Coolangatta area would be insane to stay in any other hostel; YHA or otherwise. Stay here for at least three days and chill out. You won't regret it."

"It felt more like a home stay than a YHA. Tassie really loves what he does, is a mountain of local knowledge, and clearly wants hostelers to enjoy their stay. The location in an old river house perched on the edge of the river with fantastic views to Mount Warning is hard to beat. Individual kitchen lockers for your food, porches with great views on every side, TV shed, books and games, etc."

"Fantastic hostel and town for those looking to escape the commercialism and party filled environments of Surfers and Byron. Free kayaks on the river, Mt Warning is a fantastic walk, and lots of other scenery to explore. Art gallery is great too. Being a small hostel it has a great environment, and you get to know travellers on an individual basis. I would definitely come back.."

"Very convenient and easy walk to facilities/shopping. A lovely gentle and friendly host is Tassie. A car is needed to explore the mountains and what they have to offer. A great 'quirky' hostel in a great location with lots of information to be had there. Just by walking out of your room you can view the lovely Tweed River and Mount Warning from the landing."

"Fab location right on river & near town centre - perfect place to stay while you admire lush beauty of the Tweed Valley, head to nearby beaches or drive along the coastline up to Gold Coast or down Northern Coast of NSW. Easy access to airport. Manager Tassie obviously loves his job. Not for light sleepers as busy local traffic around - but we slept like logs & were very cosy in our twin room."

"In my opinion, this is the best hostel in Australia! I first stayed here in the mid-1980s and I have returned as often as possible over the years as it feels like home. It's wonderful to be able to stay in such a historic building and in such a friendly and pretty little town. Tassie the manager has endless cheerfulness that is infectious. I always feel happy with the world after staying here!"
