The tour visits the special permit area of Koolpin Gorge as well as seeing Jim Jim Falls, Twin Falls, Barramundi Gorge, Ubirr Rock and Gunlom Falls.

Day 1 – Gunlom Falls

  • Wake up early for the journey to Kakadu National Park.
  • Travel the old Jim Jim Road, arriving at the beautiful White Lily Billabong in time for morning tea
  • Head to Gunlom Falls for a hike to the top of the waterfall.
  • Enjoy spectacular views while you swim in the refreshing pools, sit back and relax on the sandy beach at the base of the falls or dive into the natural plunge pool.
  • Camp for the night by the waterfall away from the crowds. 

 Day 2 – Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge)

  • Spend the whole day exploring Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge), a place so exclusive only 40 visitors a day are allowed to visit.
  • Learn about why this gorge is so special to the Indigenous Dreamtime story and be amazed by the tale of how this place was formed.
  • Take a challenging hike up through the gorge to be rewarded with stunning rock pools, waterfalls and rocky landscapes.
  • Make your way back to camp at Gunlom Falls for a campfire dinner. 

Day 3 – Kakadu National Park

  • Spend the entire day hiking, exploring and swimming in the beautiful waterholes of Maguk (Barramundi Gorge).
  • Discover the secret swimming holes, including a secret underwater network of interconnected pools among the rocks that flow into a small lake.
  • Tonight stay at our exclusive safari camp at Garnamarr, at the base of the escarpment. 

Day 4 – Twin Falls and Jim Jim Falls

  • Take an adventurous 4WD trip into Twin Falls.
  • Climb the escarpment to the top of the falls for a swim in the secluded crystal clear pools.
  • Climb up Budjimi Lookout and be rewarded with breathtaking views of the ancient Arnhemland Escarpment.
  • After lunch, take a 1km hike through a monsoonal vine forest to the base of Jim Jim Falls
  • Enjoy a relaxing afternoon of swimming and chilling out on the beach.
  • Experience a Great Aussie BBQ including crocodile, buffalo and kangaroo.  

Day 5 – Nourlangie Rock and Corooboree Billabong

  • Visit Nourlangie Rock, an ancient Aboriginal art site
  • Walking up to Gunwhardewharde lookout for dazzling views across Arnhemlan
  • Stop at the Bowali Information Centre and witness displays that sweep you across the land, explaining Kakadu’s ecology from Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal perspectives. 
  • Witness the incredible birdlife at the Mamakala Wetlands then make one final stop at the stunning Corroborree Billabong for a wildlife cruise, which provides a great opportunity to get some happy snaps of the native Aussie animals. Then it’s sadly time to say goodbye to Kakadu National Park as we head back into Darwin.  

Kakadu National Park and its surrounds are a beautiful, remote and wild place. We’ll try to follow the itinerary but some sights are seasonal and can change at any time due to weather conditions and cultural significance. Access to Twin and Jim Jim Falls cannot be guaranteed. If we are unable to access the falls they will be substituted with something just as awesome.

Things You Should Know

This tour is full of adventure. You need to be fit and active and keen to hike and swim in heat conditions.


Luggage is strictly restricted to a soft bag of 10 kilos per person.

  • Good walking shoes or boots.
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • A wide brimmed hat
  • Long sleeve light shirt for sun protection
  • 1 litre bottle for drinking water
  • Swimmers/ bathers/ toggs
  • Light comfortable clothing
  • A jacket (Mainly for June, July and August nights)

Cancellation and Amendment Fees


Due to the discount offered and the structure of this package - it is non-refundable once confirmed.


Each amendment (not cancellation) to the original booking, after confirmation will incur a fee of A$25 per person and per amendment.

Amendments are subject to availability.

YHA Experiences Terms and Conditions  

  • Your credit card will be debited upon completion of the online booking process. Your booking is guaranteed once you receive a confirmation email from a YHA Experiences consultant.
  • In the unlikely event we cannot confirm your booking, we will refund the total amount to the credit card with which payment has been made within 7 days. YHA Experiences and its suppliers are not liable in the event a tour or package is not available, and any refunds are restricted to the purchase price of the tour or package booked.
  • All prices quoted are in Australian Dollars.
  • YHA Experiences will aim to respond to your booking within 24 hours by email

Cancellations and Amendments

If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please notify us immediately by email. You can find the email contact details on your booking confirmation. Cancellation and change fees are outlined below:


  • A minimum cancellation fee of $25 per booking will apply to all cancellations. This fee excludes tour operator fees which will vary at the discretion of the supplier/s involved.
  • Cancellations within 48 hours of the tour, activity, accommodation, transport item commencing will incur a 100% cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued.
  • No- shows/ failure to check- in for any tour, activity, accommodation, and/or transport item is considered a cancellation and a refund will not be issued.
  • Refunds are not available on unused portions of tour packages.


  • Booking changes and amendments must be made 5 business days prior to the confirmed date of commencement for the tour, activity, accommodation, or transport item.
  • Booking changes and amendments to any booking made within 48 hours of the tour, activity, accommodation, and/or transport item may result in full cancellation and rebooking of each item and will therefore be charged full cancellation fees.
  • Each change/ amendment after confirmation will incur a minimum fee of $25 per person, per change/ amendment. This fee is in addition to any fees imposed by the tour operator which will vary in line with the cancellation and change terms and conditions of the tour operator involved.

 YHA Membership

This YHA Experiences product is not restricted to YHA members and guests. You do not need to be a member or guest of YHA to purchase this product.

  • If there is accommodation included in this YHA Experiences product and you are not already a member of YHA Australia, membership will be included as part as your first night’s stay
  • If you are an Australian resident, your membership is valid for 2 years from the month that you stay at your first YHA hostel in Australia. Your membership will renew automatically, unless you have not stayed in a YHA hostel in the past 24 months and have unsubscribed from all electronic communications.
  • If you are not an Australian resident, your membership is valid for 2 years from the month that you stay at your first YHA hostel in Australia.
