5 great summer BBQ spots in Sydney

Get ya summer social on and meet the troops for a BBQ in Sydney! We’ve done all the hard work (as usual) by finding the best cook-up locations – from beaches to the harbour, foreshores to little-secluded coves… there’s a barbeque option for everyone!

  • The quintessentially Australian experience that is a barbeque, happens to be even better at Centennial Park! Located just 5km from Sydney CBD with eight electric barbeques scattered around the grounds, this place is perfect for a long, lazy picnic. Bring your squad, and your picnic rug and enjoy a relaxed lunch or BBQ dinner (perhaps both) with waterfront views.

Where to stay:

  • Ticking all the boxes on ya ‘dream barbie’ list, with plenty of public hotplates, a beach and tonnes of grass for that much-needed cricket game to wrap up the day! A great little spot for getting your cook on, so round up the troops, the eski and anyone else who’s keen for a brilliant arvo.

  • A waterside area with a dash of history thrown into the mix! With marks from the original shoreline still on the walkways, a kids play area and plenty of access to the water - if you feel like getting close to the harbour. Take advantage of the stunning views all the way to Balmain and crack on the barbie for a killer afternoon!

Where to stay: Sydney Central YHA – 12 minutes’ drive away

Blackwattle Bay Park, Glebe

  • If you’re keen to get away from the city hullabaloo, head to Blackwattle Bay Park for a BBQ experience in the inner West. Connected to the Glebe foreshore, there are plenty of parks along the waterfront, stunning views of the Anzac Bridge (there's more than one bridge in Sydney!) and quite a few spots for you to sizzle up some snags.

Where to stay: Sydney Central YHA – just jump the 431 bus all the way to the last stop (about 15minutes) and you'll be at Glebe Point!

Shelley Beach, Manly

  • Famous for its quiet atmosphere the sheltered little beach is the perfect family-friendly location. There's a few public barbeques available… however, you better get in quick! One of the main drawcards at this spot is that it comes with some of the best snorkelling, hiking and scuba diving in Sydney – so if there’s a line-up for the good ol' barbie, jump in the water and eat a banga sanga later!

To sweeten the experience we're even dropping the link to our highly sought after Spotify playlist. So, fire up those hot plates and celebrate an afternoon of sunshine at one of YHA's recommended BBQ spots!

Might I add... who wants to head straight home after a crazy BBQ get together?

Short answer: NO ONE!

So, why not stay at one of our conveniently located properties and keep up the merriment?
