Markets of Melbourne

Who doesn't love perusing a good market or two?!

Markets and Melbourne go hand in hand like good food and wine. With multiple markets on every weekend plus special one-off markets, there are opportunities aplenty to pick up a new planter to add to your ever-growing succulent family, go overboard and buy 5 scented candles because they smell so damn irresistible and stand out from the crowd with kooky handmade clothing, jewellery and accessories – don’t listen to your mum when she says your new pants look “kinda weird”, you look fabulous! Plus by spending all your hard earned dollars at markets, you’re supporting local designers and contributing to the local economy, so it’s not a complete waste of money…right?

Here are our top Melbourne markets – which one is your favourite?

QUEEN VICTORIA NIGHT MARKET

The Queen Victoria Market must be the first thing to come to mind when we say “Melbourne markets”. During the day, it’s great for delicious cheese, dips, fresh and bright fruit and veg plus boreks – yum! But by night, it comes alive – we’re talking live music and entertainment, food from across the globe plus delicious desserts and a wide array of clothes and trinkets to buy. The Night Market runs every Wednesday night in summer and winter – check their site for dates.

FINDERS KEEPERS

Our favourite and the big daddy of Melbourne’s markets, Finders Keepers cannot be missed. Held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton over two weekends a year, it’s a homewares, plant, clothing and jewellery extravaganza. You could decorate your entire house with what’s in here or completely overhaul your wardrobe. Or if you’re thoughtful, do all your birthday present shopping for the year in one go.

CAMBERWELL SUNDAY MARKET

At the ultimate trash and treasure market in Melbourne, you’ll find girls selling half their wardrobes out of the boot of their cars to fuel their fashion addiction, tables chock full of funky vintage and retro games, bric a brac and toys and some of the best hot jam doughnuts going round! You have to delve deep at this market, but you’ll definitely find some gems here.

ROSE ST ARTISTS’ MARKET

This weekend market  oozes that funky Fitzroy vibe – hipster gals perusing the latest jewellery offerings and mums with kids in tow trawling through succulents, herbs and plants looking for the perfect addition to their home. This market is almost as good for people watching as it is for shopping!

PRAHRAN MARKET

Foodies, this market is what we believe you would call heaven. From the freshest and in season fruit and veg to mouth-watering gourmet cheeses, meats, dips and coffee, you’ll be able to tick everything off your shopping list here. Even if you don’t need to buy groceries, swing by and visit one of their eateries for delectable feast. Plus if you’re a vegan, paleo, gluten free, dairy free, eat organic only or anything in between, they’ll have a selection of food to suit you.

THE THREAD DEN MARKET

Taking place in the Atrium of Fed Square multiple times a year, the Thread Den Market features artists and makers that don’t necessarily have the resources to attend the big markets. There are some real treasures here, so don't skip it!
