North Stradbroke Island

Just short drive and a ferry ride away is the second largest sand island in the world – Stradbroke Island. Boasting 5 main beaches perfect for surfing and sunbaking as well as freshwater lagoons and whale lookout spots, this hidden gem is a day tripper’s paradise.

Moreton Island

If you are an outdoorsy type then Morteton Island is definitely one to add to the top of you must-do list. Snorkel or scuba dive at the iconic Tangalooma Wrecks Dive site, where you’ll discover tropical fish, an array of colourful coral and if you are lucky turtles. Back on land you can go sand tobogganing down the giant sand dunes or explore the historical Cape Moreton Lighthouse where you will get a 360-degree view ranging from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast.

Moreton Island is a 3 hour trip (drive and ferry) from Brisbane. 

Mooloolaba

Located on the Sunshine Coast, Mooloolaba will instantly make you feel like you are on a summer vacation, even if it’s just for a day. Pick a spot and soak up the sunshine on picturesque Mooloolaba Beach followed by a dip or a surf in the clear blue ocean. Grab a bite to eat at one the main cafes along the water front or if you are after a spot with a view you can’t go past Mooloolaba Surf Club overlooking the beach.

Mooloolaba is a 1.5 hour drive north of Brisbane. 

Springbrook National Park

If you aren’t a beach goer there are still many hidden gems that don’t involve sand and surf on Brisbane’s door step. Head to Springbrook National park and embrace the great outdoors (and a slightly cooler climate), where you will discover rainforest walking tracks, jaw dropping look outs and not to mention waterfalls! Make sure you head to the arched rock formation that comprises the ‘Natural Bridge’ and ‘Best of All Lookout’ where you will be treated to a sweeping view of New South Wales including Byron Bay, Kingscliff and Mt Warning.

Springbrook National Park is a 2 hour drive south of Brisbane.

Rolling hills and sweeping views Montville is the perfect location for anyone wanting a change of scenery and something different to Brisbane. Perfect all year round there’s so much to do in this cute little town located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland – soak up the picturesque mountain views, enjoy a meal at one of the many cafes or browse through the galleries and boutique shops along the main strip. If you feel like exploring further why not stop by Kondalilla Falls for a quick dip on the way out of town.
