    Things to do in Darwin

    Darwin YHA is a great base for exploring the spectacular World Heritage Kakadu National Park, the magnificent waterfalls at Litchfield National Park, the Tiwi Islands and the Arnhem Land Aboriginal Reserve. Darwin enjoys a warm tropical climate all year. The dry season (May to November) is the cooler time of the year in the 'Top End' and allows for excellent outdoor activities like the Mindil Beach Markets.

    FREE things to do in Darwin
    1. Mindil Beach Sunset Markets (dry season only) -  Enjoy a spectacular sunset and live entertainment as well as multiple food and craft stalls and soak up the territory atmosphere
    2. Visit Museum & Art Gallery of the NT. Discover the Territories art, natural science, history and culture. Explore Aboriginal culture and art and learn about Cyclone Tracy.


    3. Head to Darwin Waterfront and Lagoon. Relax at the waterfront, go for a swim, walk along the wharf and wind down and relax for a while.
    4. Have a guided tour of the NT Parliament House during February to November; or, as it's affectionately known, ‘the wedding cake.’
    5. East Point Reserve and Lake Alexander. A large reserve with evidence of Darwin’s wartime history as well as a beautiful lake and stunning views and sunsets across Fannie Bay.
    6. George Brown Botanical Gardens. An oasis in Darwin and a great place to relax and discover the many plants that grow in our tropical climate.
    7. Litchfield National Park. Only 1.5 hours from Darwin, this spectacular scenery is well worth the visit. Monsoon rainforest, stunning waterfalls, termite mounds, weather eroded sandstone outcrops and historic ruins. (Tours are also bookable from reception for those without transportation.)
    8. Berry Springs Nature Park. Only 45 minutes from Darwin, an attractive area for recreational activities and refreshing swimming spots for walks, picnics, wildlife spotting and swimming.
