    Travellers Tips

    • Blue room cafe was great

    • Don't make the same mistake as me and take the bus up to point look out, the hostel is a few stations before.. The island is amazing, don't miss the north gorge walk and visit brown Lake!
      Lisa Z
    • Great walks along the beach, visiting point look out - having a look for Ray's, turtles, kangaroos, koalas and Dolphins, very cute bowling club with nice food and a very nice courtesy bus driver, burgers next door are very good as well
      Anna B

      Manon M
    • Go sandboarding with Straddie adventures it was great!!
      Lianne L
    • Watch the sunset from Adder Rock or Cylinder Beach. Ocean Swim. Drinks at Straddy Beach Hotel. Brekky at Straddy Beach Hotel Bistro. Smoothie from Oceanic Gelati & Coffee Bar. Pizza and garlic bread from Tillers Cafe Pantry.

    • Must do the gorge walk and dive at the manta lodge!
      Tiffany  M
    • * eat at fish 'n chip shop up the hill behind Foodworks (Endeavour Street). * from Dunwich - try to visit The Blue Lake (need to walk 2.5kms in and 2.5kms back) but worth it. Water is a bit chilly in mid-March. * from Dunwich - Brown Lake is especially beautiful (and has facilities, is closer to Dulwich than Blue Lake and more accessible). Skin feels great after swimming due to ti-trees. * do North Gorge walk around cliffs at Point Lookout. Take binoculars (or hire them) to spot lots of dolphins, sea turtles and dugongs.

    • Must do The Gorge Walk, Amity Point and Adder Rocks for sunset. The Gelato shop in town is yummy!
      K T
    • Everything is so spread out that you really need a car. There is a bus service once an hour. Recommend getting to Island via car ferry. The guest lounge is great - great seats, high location and food available. It is slower but 'if you are in a rush you are in the wrong place" ( Staddie proverb)
      Tim V
    • Must watch the sun set from adders rock, look out for koalas and kangaroos and go snorkeling!!
      Beth J
    • I am so gratefull to life that I could experience straddie, Such a rich environment. I was glad I had a car so i could get through the island more easily than waiting for the bus....
      genevieve g
    • Excellent location, chilled staff, close to the main pub and the bus stop that connects to the Water Taxi.
      Cameron F
    • Probably best to get cash out before you come though, the roadhouse next-door gives cash back but ATMS on the island when i was there ran out of cash/didn't work!! Absolutely beautiful place though would love to come back!

    • Go to brown lake- it's lovely with lots of shady spots. Try the gelati shop at point lookout. Go see the dolphins at amity point in the evening. The north gorge walk is easy and lovely. Straddie is a little gem of an island with a nice relaxed vibe.
      Christine Y
    • Best island there is. Loved every second of it <3 And the beaches where to die for.. The gorge walk is one of the finest walks you'll do in your life. GREAT place!
      Jack S
    • A must - North Gorge walk. Buses are cheap to get there if you don't want to walk.
      Helen M
    • Check out Point Look Out, Cylinder Beach and Island Vibe if you are there in October :)
      Minou D
    • I spent both days at Main Beach due to extreme north winds at Home Beach. It is sheltered from the north by large headlands. Warm water and nice waves for body surfing protected by life savers on weekends, and life guards during the week. After the beach I walked 100 meters to the surf club bar with a great view overlooking the beach and ocean, and had a beer. What's not to like?
      Flomenhoft G
    • North Gorge walk - Beautiful scenery and loads of wildlife. Beaches - all just beautiful and magical! 4WD tour - Great experience off the beaten track & fab tour guide!!
      Lavinia H
    • I suggest you hire a car to get around the island. The local bus is limited. A resort up the road has one for hire at a reasonable rate. Stock up on food when you can. This place is ideal for chilling out. Go on whatever tours, 4WD, snorkelling, kayaking, diving, riding you can and check out the museum.
      Mercury X
    • The gorge boardwalk gives you the opportunity to relax at the top to see dolphins at play or a whale or two. Enjoy surfing, swimming, scuba diving, fishing or other sea based activities. Take a stroll along the many bush walkways or beaches and the chances are you will see koalas, kangaroos or other wildlife. Enjoy a meal or drink at the local pub and you may even see a whale pass by!
      Arthur H
    • Take plenty of food with you because you're limited on the island.
      Alice W
    • Do the lookout walk to see the whales! It was absolutely amazing!
      Katharina Z
    • very beautiful island with wonderful landscape and nice people
      Sarah D
    • Wake up for the sunrise, it is amazing. Explore the island and keep your eyes peeled for humpback whales migrating from May to July, as well as wild kangaroos.
      Felix S
    • Nice walk from the hostel to nearby beaches, cafes, market, look out point etc.
      Angela W
    • Leave the car behind if visiting for a short stay & use rail/bus & Straddie flyer or barge (walk on). Pt lookout is a must see, to spot whales & is about a 20 minute walk or short bus ride from the YHA. Enjoy a drink at the Straddie pub, overlooking the ocean, as the sun sets on a perfect day. :).
      Meg O
    • It's a great place for nature lover! It's quiet and peaceful. People are really nice and friendly. And lots of outdoor activities like snogging/whale watching/beach walking etc.
