Backpacker job assistance at Mission Beach YHA - Scottys

Mission Beach is one of the off-the-beaten track gems in Far North QLD, an hour & forty five minutes from Cairns and two & a half hours from Townsville, you will find our little piece of paradise. Fourteen kilometres of untouched beach, World Heritage Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef on your door step. With just over 3,500 permanent residents, the town is reliant on backpackers to fill a range of jobs. Our location qualifies for both 417 and 462 visa holders to complete their 88 days of regional work. All backpackers who come here are made to feel like a local, many choosing to return and work multiple times during their stay in Australia, some are even fortunate enough to find a way to never leave.

How to find work in Mission Beach

Scottys Mission Beach YHA is well known amongst local businesses for being a fantastic source of workers. We regularly speak with our guests and employers directly. When jobs come up we can sometimes match a guest with a specific job, or otherwise we can provide a list of employers who are looking for workers, as some guests prefer to secure employment themselves.

Hospitality Jobs in Mission Beach

There are usually many hospitality jobs in Mission Beaches cafes, restaurants and bars as well as housekeeping in local resorts. People on a 462 Visa can work in hospitality in Mission Beach, and be signed off for their 88 day regional work. In QLD you can complete your responsible service of alcohol online if required. Peak season in Mission Beach is from May through to October, although we continue to be busy most of the year.

Farm work in Mission Beach

Mission Beach and the surrounding area’s provide Australia with nearly 94% of our countries bananas, and they grow year round. Meaning we are fortunate that farms are looking for workers constantly, though the summer months can be slightly busier than winter months due to colder weather affecting growth. There is also seasonal work on passionfruit, prawn and other tropical fruit farms. All of these farms can sign off for both 417 and 462 visa holders. Since this is such a popular area for people to look for work, we have set up a seperate website for people to get info and apply. Check out www.missionbeachfarmwork.com for more information or to apply for work on farms around Mission Beach.

Employer expectations

For people working in hospitality, businesses expect at least a two to three month commitment, though many jobs last as long as the worker is looking to stay. Similarly anyone looking to complete their regional days on farms or in hospitality, are excepted to stay their full three months.

Getting to work

Mission beach has four different villages spread across 14 kilometres, so having your own car can be vital in securing work, but certainly not essential, many survive using a bike or walking. Anyone working on a farm will have transport provided at a very reasonable fee, this is due to strict quarantine regulations on farms.

Accommodation

Here at Scottys Mission Beach YHA we offer great weekly rates in both dorm and private rooms for long term workers to stay during their time in Mission Beach.

If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to get in contact, hopefully we can see you staying at Scottys and working in our piece of paradise soon.
