In October 2020 TED started a year long countdown to the October 2021 UN Climate Change Conference. At the end of the year’s countdown TED will be collaborating their knowledge and sharing a blueprint of what a zero carbon future looks like to the conference participants.
They launched their countdown with a week of TEDx events held all around the world. TED are encouraging businesses and individuals alike to create their own TEDx events to help spread the word and build momentum for actions that can be taken towards a more sustainable future.
Here at Sydney Harbour YHA we gathered some inspiring local businesses to tell their own sustainability stories and held a virtual watch party for a selection of TED talks that have been created specifically for the Countdown.
YHA is dedicated to preserving our beautiful world for endless future generations to travel. The three pillars of Social, Environmental and Economic sustainability are at the core of everything that we do and Dean shares his thoughts on Tourism and the future. - find out more about YHA & Sustainability

YHA is a not for profit business - that means we are for purpose and that purpose is to preserve the beauty of travel for future generations. How do we do that? There are quite a few facets to this answer. YHA has a sustainability fund partially funded by our members and from which we have been able to take on water saving and renewable energy projects throughout our network.
YHA also works to support the local communities where our properties are located. In some places this takes the form of organising and hosting a bush regeneration week, in some cities it is paying staff to spend time helping out at homeless shelters and soup kitchens and in some locations it is by putting money in to and sending our guests to participate in local indigenous run programs.
YHA also works to push the message of sustainability and climate awareness in all of our properties, daily. This event is part of that.
