Everything you need to know for Vivid

The largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, Vivid Sydney brings lights, music and ideas to Sydney each winter in a spectacular sensory celebration. After two years of disappointing cancellations, the festival is back in 2022 and is shaping up to be a resounding return to form. We’ve got you covered with everything you need to know about this year's festivities, including the some of the highlights and where to stay, so read on!

Vivid 2022 Overview

Dates: Friday 27th May - Saturday 18th June 2022

Time: 6pm - 11pm

Where: The festival is taking over the city this year - with events in Barangaroo, Circular Quay and The Rocks, Central Station, Darling Harbour Precinct, CBD Sites, UTS and Walsh Bay - plus many more.

Traveller's Tip: Head out later on a weeknight to experience all the beauty without the weekend crowds!

Vivid 2022 Events

There is an abundance of free events, as well as ticketed events, on offer in 2022, check them out here. Here's just a few:

  • First Light - using the southern pylon of Sydney Harbour Bridge, this feature will kick-off the festival with a Welcome to Country, a dance piece and projections. The ceremony will be shown each night throughout sites of the Light Walk also.
  • The famous Light Walk returns, highlighting Sydney's iconic buildings, starting at Central Station (taking part for the first time) it runs through the city to Circuar Quay.
  • At Central Station’s Grand Concourse, Saturday nights will come alive with tunes from brass bands, folk music and traditional Gypsy tunes.
  • Darling Harbour will host Sydney Infinity, a liquid and light 360-degree experience.
  • Vivid Kids at Tumbalong - a line-up of free live acts for the little (and big) kids to sing and dance along to.
  • Vivid Sydney Dinner - a feast for the senses through light, music, ideas and cuisine from the city's entertainers and chefs.
  • Explore the zoo after dark! Wild Lights at Taronga Zoo brings never before seen installations, light sculptures and animal lanterns to Vivid.
