Cancellation Terms and Conditions
Booking Terms and Conditions vary according to the property that is booked.
1. Confirmation and payments
- Bookings will be confirmed in real-time, and your credit card debited according to the terms of the rate selected for the booking. There may be extra charges, (e.g. key deposit) that are payable upon arrival at the property.
Non-refundable rate:
- Your credit card will be charged for your full stay at the time of the booking.
- Bookings are completely non-refundable and non-transferable.
Specials and packages (incl. weekly rates):
- Your credit card will be charged for your full stay at the time of the booking.
- All specials and packages are non-refundable unless otherwise stated on the booking page.
- This includes YHA Thredbo ski season bookings & YHA Sydney Harbour Vivid & New Year's Eve bookings.
Fully flexible / Standard rate (special conditions exist for some properties*):
- Your credit card will be charged for your full stay on the day of your arrival*.
- Full refund or cancellation until 2pm on day of arrival*.
*The following properties require cancellation to be made prior to the day of arrival according to the conditions below:

- Free change or cancellation prior to 24 hours of arrival date (12pm (noon) day prior).
- Full payment is is charged 24 hours prior to arrival date.
- Cancellations made within 24 hours of arrival or failure to check-in will result in a charge equivalent to one-nights' stay.

- Free change or cancellation prior to 48 hours of arrival date.
- Full payment is required at time of check-in.
- Cancellations made within 48 hours of arrival or failure to check-in will result in a charge equivalent to one-nights' stay.
- Free cancellation up to 48 hours before day of arrival.
- If your card has not already been charged it will be charged automatically 48 hours before day of arrival.
- Cancellations made within 48 hours of arrival or failure to check-in will result in a charge equivalent to three-nights' stay.
- Free cancellation up to 72 hours before day of arrival.
- If your card has not already been charged it will be charged automatically 72 hours before day of arrival.
- Cancellations made within 72 hours of arrival or failure to check-in will result in a charge equivalent to three-nights' stay.

YHA recommends these properties but does not have any involvement or responsibility for the booking. Your booking is being made with the property directly, as such terms and conditions will be provided by the property and should be provided upon reservation. Any requests to transfer or cancel a booking should be made by contacting the property directly.
2. Arrival and staying
- Please ensure you check the reception hours of the property. If you are arriving outside of reception opening hours, please contact the property directly at least 24 hours ahead of your arrival.
- All guests are required to provide valid photo ID at check-in. Failure to provide government-issued, valid photo identification will result in your booking being cancelled by YHA.
- We require taking a profile photo of all guests staying in shared rooms or private rooms with a shared bathroom. As you will be staying in a shared environment with other guests it is important that we can identify who is in our property at all times to ensure maximum safety and security for all guests. If you do not wish to have your photo taken, we will not be able to accommodate you. If you are staying in a private room with a private ensuite bathroom we will still require a photo ID upon check-in to confirm your identity.
- You must comply to our house rules throughout your stay.
- YHA properties provide short-term accommodation for travellers, and length of stay at a YHA property is limited to 14 days. Once you have stayed 14 nights at a property, you may be unable to return for up to 30 days. YHA properties are not suitable for long-term or permanent accommodation, and management reserves the right to refuse accommodation if guests are found to be using YHA properties for this purpose.
- YHA properties are designed for travellers and do not provide accommodation to people with a residential address within the same local government area of the property. Policies vary by property. Please contact the property prior to booking to discuss your requirements.
3. Membership
- YHA or HI membership is not required to make a booking at any YHA property within Australia.
- If you are not already a member of YHA or HI, membership to YHA Australia will be included as part of your first night’s stay in a YHA property.
- Your membership is valid for 2 years from the month of your first stay at a YHA property in Australia. Your membership will renew automatically unless you have not stayed in a YHA property in the past 24 months.
- If you do not receive a welcome email and would like to receive your digital membership card, please email membership@yha.com.au.
4. Age
- Any guests under 18 years old must be travelling with a responsible adult. A responsible adult is defined as: A parent, guardian, or step-parent, grandparent, sibling, spouse who is over the age of 18 years; a person 18 years or over who is acting in place of a parent and who could reasonably be expected to exercise responsible supervision of the minor – for example, a sporting coach, responsible carer or supervisor or teacher. Please refer to YHA's Child Safety Policy for full details.
- Guests under the age of 18 years must never be booked or stay in co-living (shared) rooms. If you are travelling with children, please make sure you book a private room. Children must be directly supervised at all times while on property.
- Some properties have licensed bar areas and require all guests under 18 to be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian in these areas.
- Children under the age of two may stay for free. Children are not to stay in co-living (shared) rooms and must stay in private rooms.
5. Wheelchair access
- Only some properties are suitable for wheelchair access. Please check the property information or contact the individual property directly before making an online booking.
6. Cancellations
- IMPORTANT: Cancellation Terms and Conditions vary according to the rate purchased.
- If you need to cancel a booking you will need to contact the property directly by phone or email. You may also contact our central reservations team by phone at 1800 942 386 or by email at stay@yha.com.au.
- Please allow at least 7-10 business days for processing a refund. Without exception, all refunds will be deposited to the original credit card used for your booking.
- Bookings made via one of our booking partners (e.g. booking.com, Expedia, HostelWorld or any other agents) will need to be cancelled via the booking partner using the methods they provide such as an online system or app, phone, or email. YHA is not able to refund a booking on the Agents behalf please refer to the Terms and Conditions of your booking provided by the booking partner.
Additional Information
- Specific terms & conditions may apply for bookings booked during peak or events periods, with a minimum nights' stay, for example: Significant sporting, art, or music events, ski season at snow properties, New Year's Eve.
- If you do not arrive and do not contact the property to cancel prior to the cancellation time - the property reserves the right to cancel your booking and resell the bed/room and you may be charged a cancellation fee.
- Contributions to the Sustainable Properties Fund cannot be refunded.
YHA Privacy Statement
YHA Ltd (ABN: 94 008 387 791) collects and handles your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy, so that we can provide and administer our products and services including YHA memberships, travel products, processing bookings, payments, check-ins, and cancellations and provide you information about these. Without your information, we may not be able to provide you products and services and you may miss out on receiving valuable information from us. If you are located outside of Australia, please be aware that any information you provide to us, will be transferred from your country of origin to Australia and you consent to this transfer.
We may disclose your personal information to third party operators and providers of ‘travel deals’ you have booked or enquired about, to sponsors and partners when you enter a competition or promotion, to our umbrella organisation Hostelling International (HI) when you become a HI member and to third party service providers. These third parties may have servers located overseas such as in Europe, the USA and UK and you consent to these disclosures. If you are providing information on behalf of someone else, you confirm that you have authority to do so, and you have given them the information set out in our Privacy Policy and they have not objected to our handling, use and disclosure of their personal information. You have a right to access your personal information that we hold and may ask us to update, correct or delete this.
