On this 2 day weekend city escape to our nation’s capital you will discover the journey of Australia and reflect on where the country is headed. World class attractions, amazing architecture and futuristic planning all play their part in making Canberra one of the world's most modern and progressive cities.
Departing Sydney you will head south through the NSW Southern Highlands passing by typical Australian country towns that are small in size but big in character!
Upon arrival in Canberra, the first stop of the day will be Parliament House for a guided tour. Not only is this where you can see Australia’s democracy in action but the building itself is an architectural masterpiece filled with historical treasures and stunning contemporary art.
After your lunch break (own expense) you'll spend two hours perusing the National Museum of Australia at your leisure. This modern museum is well-known for controversial expositions regarding key issues of Australia's social history, people and events.
Then you will re-join the group to visit of the Australian War Memorial where you will learn about the legends of Gallipoli, the ANZACs and sacrifices and losses suffered by Australians in past wars fought around the world.
The last stop on the guided tour is a drive through Yarralumla to admire the many national embassies each uniquely designed to reflect aspects of their country's culture.
At the end of the day you will be dropped at the Canberra City YHA, located in the heart of the city with restaurants, bars, cafes and shops only minutes' walk away. Check in and relax, then head out into the night!
The morning is yours to spend how you like! Hire a bike from reception to explore the city and surrounds, visit the Old Bus Depot Market and try out all the delicious samples, check out million dollar artworks in the National Gallery of Australia, hike up Mt Ainslie and enjoy the view of the city below or enjoy the great food scene!
Transport back to Sydney departs at 2:30pm and you will be back by approximately 6pm.

Due to the several components that make up this tour package, the tour is non-refundable.
-If you are not already a member of YHA Australia, membership will be included as part as your first night’s stay if your tour includes accommodation.
- If you are an Australian resident, your membership is valid for 2 years from the month that you stay at your first YHA hostel in Australia. Your membership will renew automatically, unless you have not stayed in a YHA hostel in the past 24 months and have unsubscribed from all electronic communications.
- If you are not an Australian resident, your membership is valid for 2 years from the month that you stay at your first YHA hostel in Australia.
Cancellations and Amendments
If you need to cancel or amend your booking after we have confirmed, please notify us immediately by email or fax. On the booking confirmation print-out, you can find the email contact details. If you cancel or amend your booking after we have confirmed or fail to arrive on the nominated day, we will charge you the fees outlined in the specific product conditions.
We strongly advise you purchase adequate travel insurance to safeguard against any losses.
