Start 2020 with a summer road trip on the Great Ocean Road. With the beautiful summer weather and plenty of time to swim and enjoy the beaches there is no better time to explore this region!
This 2 day Great Ocean Road trip allows you time to truly explore and enjoy the stunning scenery, native wildlife and beautiful beaches this area has to offer. You will visit an ancient volcano, lush rainforest, towering sea cliffs and most importantly have time to chill out or swim at the beaches!
Day 1: Departing Melbourne you will travel in the reverse direction to the other Great Ocean Road trips to avoid the crowds. The first highlight of the day is Tower Hill, a sunken volcano home to loads of kangaroos, koalas and emus. Then it's onto the Great Ocean Road where the amazing coastal views begin. See the Bay of Islands, Bay of Martyrs, The Grotto and London Bridge. As the day is coming to an end you will head up to the 12 Apostles for an amazing sunset experience. Overnight: Port Campbell
Day 2: Start the day at Loch Ard Gorge where you will be surrounded by the towering sea cliffs and learn about the rich maritime history of the shipwreck coast. Then it's back to the 12 Apostles where you have the option of adding on a helicopter flight (additional cost $145). Next it's Gibson’s Steps to see the Apostles from the beach and admire their magnificent size. You will get a chance to stretch your legs on a walk through ancient rainforest at Maits Rest then stop in the charming seaside town of Apollo Bay for lunch (own expense). Great scenery all afternoon as you wind your way back towards Melbourne.
What you need to bring: Water, hat, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, warm and cool clothing, toiletries, rain jacket, camera, swimwear, towel, spending money and a sense of adventure!
