    Things to do in Thredbo

    1. Thredbo Saturday Night Flare Run

    2. During the ski season, watch the magical Saturday night firework and flare run display. Join in and be amongst the Thredbo night life as skiers and snowboarders light up ski trails with flares as they descend down the slopes. This is a magical Saturday night tradition which is sure to leave you with fond memories.

For those that prefer to unwind at night the flare and fireworks display can be seen from the comfort of the hostel balcony.

    3. Go tobogganing and build a snowman during the ski season

    4. For those that love to play in the snow, here is your chance!

Try your hand at making a snowman that will become a prized photo on your Instagram account. Get silly and toboggan down the hill, make a snow angel and generally just have fun playing in the snow.

Thredbo Snow Play Park is free for all to experience. Bring your own toboggan and snow gear or hire from nearby rental facilities.

    5. Climb to the summit of Australia's highest mountain, Mt Kosciuszko

    6. If you’re visiting Thredbo in the warmer months, climbing Mt Kosciuszko is a must-do. Enjoy the experience of climbing the highest peak in Australia, which stands at a grand scale of 2,228m above sea level. At this height, it is almost exactly a quarter the size of Mt Everest (8,848m).

From your Thredbo YHA accommodation you can choose to get to Mt Kosciuszko by either walking from the town centre or alternatively catching the Thredbo Kosciuszko Express chairlift (open 365 days a year). If you do decide to take the chairlift, get ready for the elation of the 1.8km uphill ride to the closest access point to Mt Kosciuszko before commencing the summit climb.

Weather can be unpredictable, so it is always important to prepare for all conditions. Remember to bring drinking water, hat, snacks, sunscreen, sturdy shoes and clothes for all weather conditions.

    7. Ride Thredbo's scenic mountain bike trails

    8. Thredbo is well known during the warmer months for having some of the most scenic bike trails available in NSW. You have the choice of either challenging yourself with intermediate and advanced bike tracks or more leisurely scenic rides.

For those that are up for a challenge, try one of Thredbo's Gravity trails such as the "Thredbo All-mountain Trail" for intermediate level enthusiasts. It starts at 1930m above sea level and will take you on a 10km ride down through the mountains.

Alternatively, for those seeking a scenic ride, Thredbo Valley track takes you across three amazing suspension bridges to the old Rangers Station. This bike ride will take you through pristine open grasslands and amongst thick eucalyptus bushland that meanders along the banks of the famous Thredbo River.

    9. Visit the Thredbo Ski Museum

    10. Learn about the rich history of Thredbo and how it became Australia’s most iconic ski destination. Glimpse into the past and see treasured items that date all the way back to 1890s, such as skis, boots, clothing, the original Crackenback chairlift seats and fascinating images and video footage. With free admission available to all visitors Thredbo Ski Museum is a great activity to include within your holiday itinerary.

    11. Cook up a feast on the free barbeques by the beautiful Thredbo River

    12. Try out your cooking skills with free public BBQs at the Thredbo River picnic area. This picnic area is located in an idyllic river setting and is a popular rest stop while walking and fishing within the nearby area.

This location has many unique experiences to offer. If you keep quiet when approaching the riverbank at dusk, you may spot wild platypuses. Also, for those that like to fish, you can throw a line in the water and try your luck with catching a prized trout. Fishing licences are required for all anglers, they are available online from the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
