Camel Cup 2019

Definitely one of Australia’s quirkiest events and one not to miss - Alice Springs Camel Cup. Taking place on 20 July 2019, right in the heart of the red centre of the country.

Camels have a long history in Australia as a means of transporting goods from one end of the country to the other. Today, they are more of a tourist attraction though, with visitors flocking from all over the globe to see this spectacle. While jockeys racing atop of camels around a dusty desert track is a tricky task for the participants, it’s a guaranteed hilarious sighting for viewers!

Entertainment is abundant, with nine somewhat unpredictable races around the outback track throughout the day. The races kick off at 12 noon and finish at 4 pm. In between the races, you won’t be short of entertainment, with belly dancers, rickshaw races, 'Kids Kamel Kapers' hobby camel races, rides, Mr and Miss Camel Cup challenges, food stalls and bars. It’s a carnival atmosphere like nothing you’ve experienced before!
