For 12 hours on one night in February, the city of Melbourne will turn into a magical wonderland of music, art and light.
White Night is back and bigger than ever in 2018. From 7pm-7am on February 17, Melbourne will come alive to celebrate art, creativity and culture and the streets, parks and lane ways will be taken hostage by local, national and international artists, musicians and performers to provide you with an experience like no other.
Walk through a pretty winter wonderland when Little Bourke St becomes a snow covered laneway without the chill, so no snow gear needed. Watch in amazement at the mechanical movement of the Serpant Mother, a metallic, kinetic reptile that spews fire and has come straight from Burning Man festival. Pet and interact with friendly neon doggos at Neon Dog Park in the Queen Victoria Gardens. Finally, reach out and create music at Metamorphosis, an installation landscape of giant, glowing musical cocoons that produce eerie and realistic insect clicks, chirps and chatters.
These are just a few of the amazing experiences you can see, touch, listen to and interact with on White Night, but to get the full festival program, make sure you visit their website.
While White Night does run for a full 12 hours, be aware that it's at its busiest from about 9pm until midnight, so you may want to avoid these hours and plan accordingly. We suggest you nap in your room at Melbourne Central YHA or Melbourne Metro YHA until about 1am and then go explore the wonder and amazement that is White Night.
