The online ratings are in – check out who won the battle between YHA’s perennial top two!
They came, they stayed, they rated.
From the Queensland tropics to the Snowy Mountains and everywhere in between, our guests have cast their verdict on YHA’s network of 80-plus hostels . . . and for the first time in years, they have split the two properties that have been tied on top of the tree at 98% for years.
Port Elliot YHA, maintaining its 98% score, edged ahead of South Australian cousin Port Lincoln YHA, which still bagged a commendable 97%, to notch the most impressive customer rating for 2016 – the first time in a few years they haven’t been neck and neck at the summit. The pair both fall under the Medium category (50-100 beds).
In the Small category (less than 50 beds), Hunter Valley YHA (96%) leapfrogged Thredbo YHA (94%) into top spot, while in the Large bracket (101-200 beds), Port Douglas YHA (93%) retained its gold medal ahead of Phillip Island YHA (92%), which was joined on the podium by the Blue Mountains YHA (also 92%).
A big congrats to the victors in each review category, too:
Cleanest hostel: Port Lincoln maintained a perfect 100% rating for the year, showing an unbelievably high standard of cleanliness.
Friendliest hostel: Four-way tie between Port Elliot, Murwillumbah, Walpole and Hunter Valley.
Best atmosphere: Port Elliot, the overall champ.
Most recommended: Lancelin, Pittwater and Mt Lofty all had a 100% ‘recommended-to-friend’ rate – a huge achievement.
A massive thank you to all the Hostel Managers and staff who were often named personally by guests in glowing online reviews – we give you all a 100% rating!
