From parties to town festivals, from pub crawls to fantastic locations to view the fireworks and places to spend New Year's Day sleeping off the previous night's festivities, YHA is here to ensure that you have an unforgettable NYE.
Canberra's New Year's Eve celebrations are literally a five minute walk from Canberra City YHA, so if you just want to see the fireworks, all you need to do is head out five minutes beforehand. For those who want to enjoy the party, there'll be loads of free live music to keep you dancing long into the night.
Are you naughty or nice? Devil or angel? Dress up* accordingly at Cape Tribulation YHA's Saints and Sinners party. Their New Year's Eve bash includes a Dj who will have you dancing all night long, food to sustain you and a bonfire on the beach
*Dress up is optional, but it's always more fun if you do!
It's party time at Coolangatta YHA. For just $10, you'll get beer, snacks, fun games like beer pong and an awesome party!
For those who want to go out, there are street parties, live music and fireworks. Cooly is literally on the border of NSW & QLD, and thanks to daylight savings, you can see two lots of fireworks in one night! Head to Tweed Heads in NSW first for their midnight fireworks and then dash back to Cooly for your second lot of midnight fireworks an hour later!
Spend New Year's Eve by the waterfront when you stay at Darwin YHA. The City of Darwin will host a huge event with food stalls, fireworks at 9pm for the kids who have to go to bed early and live music to keep you going until the main event - the midnight fireworks display.
Take the elevator - or the stairs if you're feeling fit - to the rooftop for Melbourne Central YHA's New Year's Eve celebrations. There'll be drinks, a BBQ, good vibes, great people, views of the city and hopefully a warm summer night!
If eating, drinking, sitting around and chatting sounds like your type of New Year's Eve, make sure you stay at Murwillumbah YHA. Guests are invited to bring drinks and snacks and to relax and enjoy each other's company. Midnight will be celebrated with champagne for all and watching the fireworks on TV.
Don't want the big hustle and bustle of a Sydney New Year's Eve? Stay at Newcastle YHA and enjoy Newcastle's impressive fireworks display on the harbour at 9pm. This event still draws in the crowds but it's nowhere near as busy as Sydney!
Across the road from Port Elliot YHA is the Sailing Club, a nautical themed food and wine event running from 30 December 2016 - 1 January 2017. While every day of this festival is bound to be spectacular, it's the Gin Party on New Year's Day that has everyone abuzz. Every stall holders will offer a gin drink with glass on arrival, plus there'll be a VIP area that overlooks Horseshoe Bay.
Stay at Port Fairy YHA to enjoy the towns' month long summer festival Moyneyana. On New Year's Eve, the festivities go up a notch - cheer on the runners of the 100m backwards sprint down the main street (the son of Port Fairy YHA's owners won last year), get your groove on with live music from 8pm-midnight and watch the fireworks light up the sky.
If you want to party in Sydney but don't want to spend the big bucks on accommodation, why not stay at Port Stephens YHA? Catch public transport down to Sydney for approximately $12, dance and party your heart out, watch the fireworks and then in the wee hours of New Year's Day, head back to Port Stephens for only $2.50 (because it's Sunday!) with an Opal card. Then spend the rest of the day recovering by the pool.
While Surfers Paradise YHA has no hostel event on, they are selling tickets for the Wicked Party Crawl, starting at $49. A ticket will get you free entry into 4 exclusive venues, BBQ and pizza buffet, party games, prize giveaways, professional photos, free online photos and much more.
If this doesn't sound like your thing, no worries - head over to the beach at midnight for a great view of the fireworks.
Even though Sydney Harbour YHA's NYE rooftop party sold out back in March, it doesn't mean that you shouldn't stay there - it's in a prime fireworks location. Head to the Level 3 walkway for a great view or alternatively leave the hostel and take a short walk to some of the other amazing vantage points - Observatory Hill, Bangaroo, Dawes Point and Circular Quay to ring in the New Year with a dazzling display.
