Escape From Pompeii at the Maritime Museum

The Western Australian Maritime Museum goes back all the way to 79 AD with their latest exhibition Escape From Pompeii: The Untold Roman Rescue.

Perfect for students, history buffs and people who just like looking at old things, this exhibition features accounts by observers of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the artefacts unearthed from the archaeological dig site 2000 years after the eruption.

As you venture through the exhibition, you’ll get an in-depth understanding of the history and culture of the Roman Empire and how exactly the disaster unfolded.

If you’re a teacher looking to bring your students along to the exhibition, the Maritime Museum has put together a fantastic schools program that has been modified to suit a variety of ages from K-12.

Students will receive a hands on, interactive session to accompany their visit to the exhibition where they’ll learn about everyday life in Pompeii and the Roman Empire - they’ll learn about the fashion of the time, be able to marvel at a Roman soldier’s uniform and equipment and learn how the town functioned.

The exhibition runs until Sunday February 4 2018 and you can pre-book your tickets online or buy them at the museum. If you’re looking to book your school group in, bookings are essential, especially if you wish to take part in the Maritime Museum’s educational programs.
